. Been a bit remiss in posting new content. A lot is going on and my attention span is seriously compromised trying to keep up with the health care debate. I will post more after the Senate Finance Committee is done playing games with the future of millions of Americans health.
This is YOUR time to participate in YOUR government.
This was a historical election in more ways than one. Aside from electing the first African-American to lead our nation, we had record participation by the American Voter.
We at "Joe the Voter" consider this a mandate to ourselves to continue the momentum and to stay involved after the election. America faces many challenges but if we all choose to work together we can help shape a new direction.
This is not about politics...this is about progress. Liberal and Conservative must come together to help form a "More perfect Union" to represent the best aspects of the left and the right.
While I believe on cooperation by both the left and right, recent events have made it clear that those on the Right are only interested in obstruction. They are standing as a united front against change.
While this may be over-simplification I have come to the conclusion that the primary definitions of Democrats vs Republicans should be broadly stated as:
- Democrats take from the wealthy to help the poor.
- Republicans take from the poor to help the wealthy.
- All politicians take from the wealthy to ignore the voters.
We cannot let ourselves go back to the way it was. We must all be involved by educating ourselves to the issues and to keep our elected officials aware of our thoughts and demands. Our silence was, in part, the cause of our current problems. Too few spoke up until it was too late.
Why did I do this?
I was a volunteer on the Obama campaign and watched as the landslide unfolded. I was very impressed not just with the coordination of the campaign but with the citizen response and involvement. It was history making. Having seen such a mass of volunteers and enthusiasm for change I decided that this enthusiasm was a powerful resource and needed to be tapped before it lost it's energy and focus. This became my way of trying to harness this momentum and to keep "Joe the Voter" motivated to participate in his/her own future.
One Year Later: I am happy about some results and disappointed about a lack of progress in other areas. I do not blame Obama for the economy...he inherited that and it cannot be fixed quickly. I am disappointed that Gitmo is not yet closed. I am not happy with the poor progress being made in heath care reform. I don't think Obama was forceful enough with this issue. I am sad to see Ted Kennedy's seat lost to a Republican who will never respect what he worked to accomplish. I blame the Democrats for that loss. They just can't seem to function as a team like the Republicans do.
UPDATE: More thoughts on how to make this work. I would love to be able to find volunteers who are qualified experts in various areas such as economy, voter & elections, criminal justice, welfare, health care etc. to join with others as a unit to write some suggested guidelines for formulating legislation we believe Congress should consider. I would REALLY like to have two experts in each group, one a liberal and one a conservative so that we can wind up with a balanced plan of action to present to Congress and the new Administration.
Please not that the opinions are mine but if I post specific facts I check more than one souce to be sure I am as accurate as possible. I am more professional in this regard than anyone at Fox(not)News !
